Normanton Radio Station began broadcasting on 28 February 2014.
Located approximately 380Km East of Doomadgee, 360Km South of Kowanyama, and 680Km West of Cairns, Normanton has a population of 1257 people.
The town is on the traditional lands of the Gkuthaarn (Kareldi) and Kukatj people and today 60% of it's inhabitants identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Originally called Norman, the town was established in 1867 by William Landsborough and was used as a port for the Croyden gold rush.
In 1882 after the goldfields had dropped off, a meatworks was opened and the cattle industry became operational and is still the main industry in the Normanton area.
