Pormpuraaw is a remote Aboriginal community on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, home to around 600 residents from the Thaayorre, Wik, Bakanh, and Yir Yoront peoples. Known for its strong cultural heritage, the community includes 16 outstations and maintains deep connections to traditional language, customs, and land.

Governed by the Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council, the community manages a range of services including health, education, aged care, women’s shelter, library, ranger programs, and an all-weather airport.
