The Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) is located at the very tip of Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland. It encompasses four remote Aboriginal communities: Injinoo, Umagico, New Mapoon, and Seisia. Together, these communities are home to around 2,000 people, primarily from the Gudang, Wuthathi, and other Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal groups.
The NPA is rich in cultural heritage, with strong connections to traditional land, sea, and language. The communities maintain their cultural practices while engaging in local governance through the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council.
Essential services such as health clinics, schools, and community facilities support residents, while the region’s coastal environment offers opportunities for fishing, hunting, and eco-tourism. The NPA is also a gateway for Torres Strait travel and trade.
